Domaine Fernand Engel : A Winery with Respect for the People and Nature

This wine estate has grown into one of the most important Alsatian organic farming estates in just a generation.
This isn’t a coincidence. The new generations perpetuate with humility and passion, the spirit of Fernand, the founder. And it is for each of them, the commitment of a lifetime.

The estate’s 62 hectares are under regular scrutiny. Since 2001, the organic vineyard has been managed with the utmost respect for biodiversity.

The establishment of a microfauna rich on the surface and multiple microorganisms in the soils is enabled by organic and biodynamic land cultivation. These are capable of ensuring soil fertility, as well as combating erosion, drought, and degradation. They may restore fertility and stability to any degraded soil by making all of the minerals in the soil available to the plant, which have been blocked by years of conventional farming.

The soil is rich, the vines are sturdy, and the grapes are ripe. This long-term effort assures the natural and cultural heritage’s long-term viability. This dedication enables us to accept our role as peasants toward future generations with humility and dignity.

Every year, the Engel family aims to produce healthy wines in response to high demand. Each activity is carried out with rigor and discipline, down to the smallest details, in both the vineyard and the cellar.

Bodegas Navarro López was formed in 1988 when its president, Doroteo Navarro Donado, purchased an old Valdepeas winery created in 1904 that has been positioned in a unique environment in the center of the vineyard since 2001. Navarro López still preserves its family spirit, which is carried on by Francisco and Ana Navarro, the president’s heirs, but with a modern approach as a result of its international presence and exponential expansion.

With the addition of Bodegas Valoria to the Navarro López Group, the Navarro López Group now includes Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla, frizzantes and flavored, sangria and tinto de verano, liqueurs and derivatives, as well as Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla, frizzantes and flavored, sangria and tinto de verano, liqueurs and derivatives.

The winery has been built in a picturesque environment, surrounded by vineyards, about five miles from Valdepeas and near one of the area’s most famous classic vineyards, “Las Averturas,” in what is now the Consolation neighborhood, since 2001.

Navarro López’s greatest wines are prepared from its own grapes and milled and processed promptly after harvesting as a result of its position. The proximity of this area also allows for the selection of the best time for grape harvest, whether day or night. The winery’s processing plant has a capacity of over 7 million litres, which is growing daily as the winery sells around 14,000,000 bottles.

VIÑEDOS PUERTAS LTDA. : El Milagro, a modern wine cellar equipped with latest technology

Jose Puertas Pons created the Vinedos Puertas family business in 1950. Jose Puertas Pons was born in the Spanish town of Campo (Huesca province, Aragon), which is situated on the banks of the Esera River in a valley surrounded by the towering Turbon (2,492m) and Cotiella (2,912m) peaks. He has built and expanded Vinedos Puertas into one of Chile’s most important wine producers via hard work, dedication, and a distinct vision of development.

The Vinedos Puertas vineyard consisted of 80 hectares of fields irrigated by water pouring from the Andes Mountains, as well as a one-million-liter winery known as El Milagro, located near Convento Viejo, in the center of Curico Valley. The company specialized in grapes and bulk wines, as well as custom winemaking, giving its services to the country’s major winemakers and encouraging job creation and development in the surrounding area.

Vinedos Puertas’ aim is to establish Vinedos Puertas as a company dedicated to exceeding customers’ expectations with high-quality goods in the international market.

The objective of Vinedos Puertas is to consistently improve the final quality of their wines. In conformity with all current legal norms and laws, the Vinedos Puertas company operates sustainably and follows ethical standards oriented at both its staff and their clientele.

Temperature-controlled stainless-steel barrels and epoxy concrete tanks with temperature-regulating plates are used for fermentation. According to them, the wines are held at controlled temperatures in epoxy cement and/or stainless steel tanks as their final destination. Reserve wines are aged in French oak barrels for a period of time selected by the oenologist.

The wines are bottled according to a schedule based on the variety and type of wine. After that, the bottles are kept in an acclimatized basement until they are ready to be sent. Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Slovenia, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, Russia, Sweden, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Switzerland are among the countries that have received the cargo.

What is the most unique and qualitative part of your products, different from competitors ?

Our family has always maintained that “80% of the origin of a good wine comes from vineyards and only 20% from the wine cellar.” so what we do is to explore Maule valley and all its microclimates in order to select the specific soil and climate for each variety we plant. This is the key of producing great wines.

When did you start to export your brand worldwide, and what is your development plan for the next years ?

Our family has been producing wines for 4 generations, and we stared exporting worldwide in 1998, today we export to about 25 countries and Taiwan is one of the markets we love the most . For next years our plan is to keep exploring new areas in Maule valley and plant new varieties in order to expand our variety selection.

Why is Taiwanese Pineapple Tart Famous?

0

A Taiwanese shortbread filled with pineapple jam is known as pineapple cake (). It’s also known as pineapple shortbread or pineapple tart. Taiwanese pineapple tart is a favorite among locals and visitors looking for unique savory gifts.

What is it about Taiwanese pineapple cake that makes it so popular? Taiwan, for example, is a major pineapple producer and exporter. The Taiwanese have managed to create delectable sweets that have become a staple.

Nobody knows exactly when the pineapple cake was made. However, according to my study, it became famous in the 1970s. The yield of pineapples in Taiwan has fluctuated over time. However, since the 1970s, when Southeast Asian countries with cheaper labor began growing pineapples, Taiwan has been unable to compete on the global market. Taiwan had to come up with a novel way to make use of its surplus pineapples.

Every crisis provides an opportunity for rebirth. In Taiwan, pastry chefs began selling pineapple cakes with a buttery crust filled with pineapple jam. It was an instant success.

The name is another cultural factor that contributes to its popularity. The Taiwanese pronunciation of pineapple, ong lai, is identical to the Mandarin word “prosperity has arrived.” Pineapple cake has undoubtedly been a sign of riches, good fortune, and prosperity in Taiwan.

Chia Te Taipei is a well-known brand of pineapple cakes in Taiwan. With its flavorful pineapple cakes, this small bakery has won the hearts of many Taiwanese and foreign tourists since its establishment in 1975. The Chia Te pineapple tarts also took first place in the Taipei Pineapple Cake Festival, which was organized by the Taipei City Government and Taipei Bakery Association in 2006 and 2007.

From the outside, the Chia Te Bakery appears to be a typical neighborhood confectionary store. However, considering the long line of people at ALL TIMES, it’s clear that there’s something unique about this bakery. Once inside, you’ll be astounded by how quickly the pineapple cakes disappear from the shelves. But don’t worry, they’re almost always restocked.

Chia Te, on the other hand, does not have any samples in the shop. Chia Te also says that no preservatives are used in their products. They don’t have to, if you think about it. It soon sells out and is devoured.

You must serve yourself at the store unless you call ahead to place an order for pick-up. Despite the fact that the original pineapple pasty is the most popular, Chia Te Bakery also offers a variety of pineapple tarts (see below). Individually wrapped Chia Te pineapple cakes Simply pick up a box (6, 12 or 20 pieces) and fill it with your favorite flavors to create your own at-home sampling.

Chia Te Pineapple Pastry

If you ask any Taiwanese, they would almost certainly have heard of Chia Te. (Jidé is how it is pronounced.) Even before I tried its popular pineapple pastry, I had heard so much about it. I was afraid it wouldn’t live up to the expectations. It, however, turned out to be much better than I had expected.

The pineapple tarts from Chia Te are even more buttery and fluffy than other brands. There are tiny pieces of pineapple inside the pineapple pastry. Although they do contain pineapple fibers, they are more jammy than fibrous in my opinion. The pineapple pastry created by Chia Te is sweet and fruity. The sweetness and tanginess of the pineapple are well-balanced.

Chia Te Pineapple Egg Yolk Pastry

The pineapple flavor is prominent in Chia Te pineapple cake with egg yolk, with a slight egg flavor. Pineapple tanginess stands out rather than egg yolk. The crust is firmer than the original pineapple pastry. When it broke, I thought it was well-made.

Chia Te Pastry Other Flavors

Most popular flavors from Chia Te are Original Pineapple and Cranberry Pineapple tarts (蔓越莓鳳梨酥). I also like their Honeydew Melon Pastry (哈密瓜酥) and Plum Pineapple Pastry (梅鳳酥). Other flavors include Cherry Pineapple (櫻桃鳳梨酥), Strawberry (草莓酥), Acrospires Walnut (胚芽核桃鳳梨酥), Longan (桂圓酥), and Prunes (南棗酥) pastries.

Wine Importers and Wine Import Trends in Taiwan

Taiwan has gained economic growth and is now ranked seventh in Asia and 22nd in the world in terms of buying power parity. The regime for new foreign investment is open, and regulatory changes and economic liberalization have improved Taiwan’s trade profile. In Taiwan, many companies compete for economic productivity, including import-export, which is considered critical for this Tiger State.

Types of Consumers

The industry has evolved from rich businessmen drinking wine as a status symbol to affluent wine lovers drinking wine in restaurants, keen to expand their wine experience and sampling abilities.

Ladies favor light and delicate wines, soft vintages with fruity aftertastes, but also red wine for its health benefits; young urbanites are interested in discovering new flavors; gourmands prefer tried and true, prestigious, quality, and pricey wines; and the middle class purchases medium-range and entry-level vintages from stores and supermarkets.

The Wine Market

The best wine for Taiwanese customers will be between robust and semi-dry, as well as appealing in terms of bottling, label size, weight, and overall appearance.

Red wine is still the most popular among customers, but white and sparkling wines are gaining popularity. Other market tastes include still wines, sweet wines, and solid wines, with rosé wines remaining a niche commodity.

Chilean and Argentinian wines are the most popular at low retail prices, while Italian, Spanish, and French varieties are popular at higher prices.

Canned Wine a Trend?

Due to its many benefits, the canned wine segment has seen exciting growth in Taiwan in 2019 and has become very successful among the youth. Can packaging provides comfort, which is a core factor driving demand development. Furthermore, since they are less costly than traditional bottle packaging and have a better recycling rate than bottles, they encourage sustainability. Wineries have also experimented with different types of packaging, such as containers and cartons, to turn their product into a more affordable beverage.

Influencers in the Wine Industry

The press and social media, particularly wine publications such as Decanter, Wine Spectator, and especially Wine & Spirits Digest (WSD), Taiwan’s unique and admired wine and spirits industry trade journal, have a significant impact on trends and habits.

Furthermore, the incredibly popular wine-themed comic book Kami no Shizuku (Drops of God) raised wine sales in many countries, including Taiwan, as fans of the series checked out wine and wineries featured in the comic.

Furthermore, trade events such as wine seminars, business-to-business wine shows, and tasting events are held on a regular basis in Taiwan. Importers attend Vinexpo Asia and the Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Fair to meet with suppliers from around the world and learn about new brands.

Entering the Market

While Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corp. has a monopoly in the country’s wine market, its dominance is gradually waning as a result of increased competition from imported foreign brands preferred by Taiwanese wine enthusiasts.

Today, there are numerous business opportunities to enter the Taiwan wine market as consumption habits have evolved with the emergence of new customers, especially women and young people, for whom wine consumption is considered an integral part of their desired lifestyle.

Since the Taiwanese wine market is segmented, exporters must tailor their goods to customer and importer tastes, while distributors must engage in special promotion and operation at all price points.

Wine & Gourmet Taipei 2021

Wine & Gourmet Taipei is Taiwan’s largest wine event and every year, international wineries find new business partners and importers when participating. Apart from getting in contact with the major distributors, their brands will be promoted through our various channels to facilitate a smooth entry to the market and raise awareness to their products among the consumer base. Wine & Gourmet Taipei is the only professional exhibition in Taiwan that integrates the entire supply chain of the wine industry, covering both local and international wine agents, wineries, professional wine cellaret and high-quality accessories. WGT also includes a variety of gourmets, master classes and extensive programs.

The Wine & Gourmet will take place on 3 days from Friday, 28. May to Sunday, 30. May 2021 in Taipei.

Taiwanese Wine Industry

There’s a lot to like about Taiwan, a tiny island country. Taiwan, which is situated 180 kilometers east of China and has a population of approximately 23 million people, is an important and growing market for wine.

Taiwan is one of Asia’s top five wine markets, with Euromonitor predicting that demand will rise rapidly in the coming years, surpassing 25 million litres by 2021.

Since the 1990s, when drinking wine was a status symbol for rich businessmen, Taiwan’s wine industry has expanded dramatically. Modern wine connoisseurs are increasingly looking for varieties that offer more than just old-world prestige and a steep price tag.

Wine drinking in Taiwan

The new wine demand in Taiwan is being pushed ahead by sharp young female buyers, and wine intake in Taiwan has increased by 8.5 percent in the last seven years.

Taiwanese wine drinkers are used to consuming wine with their meals. In Taiwan, drinking wine in restaurants is common and widely embraced. Taiwanese people prefer a night out at a restaurant to a night out at a western club. Food and wine go hand in hand in Taiwanese culture, and wine is becoming more popular in this sense.

The wine industry benefited from the growing interest in and success of local wine events like the Wine & Gourmet Taipei Festival, the Taipei Wine & Spirits Festival, and the Taichung International Wine Exhibition. These events encourage wine enthusiasts to learn about various types of wine, as well as specific grape varieties and growing regions from around the world.

According to a recent Taiwan Public Opinion Foundation (TPOF) survey, 54 percent of Taiwanese adults drink at least regularly, and among these drinkers, 30.8 percent favoured wine, while beer consumption remained strong (30.6 percent) and liquor trailed far behind (29.4 percent ). 45.8 percent of Taiwanese do not drink at all, and 0.2 percent of those polled did not respond.

According to Statista statistics, Taiwan is still one of the world’s least wine-consuming countries (when opposed to spirits and beer).
